Message I have a 93 NA needing a timing belt replacement along with the front main oil seal, with everything that goes along with it and the car has 217k miles but runs fine and has very good compression. Also, I have a spare engine from a wrecked car that needs the same maintenance but has 240k Mobil 1 miles on it that ran in a car I owned before it was wrecked. The spare is out of the car and I am considering having the engine work done on the spare and having the engines swapped and also possibly including the transmission for the spare in the swap.

My question is how much more work is required to swap the engines and is it worth doing just to ease the work required to perform the maintenance on the engine already in the car?
Also, the engine in the car and spare engine should have the valve cover gaskets done. It just seems to me easier and less time consuming to do the maintenance on the spare and swap the two rather than doing the work on the engine in the car.

Thanks for any comment.
